OFFF is a graphic design festival held in Barcelona every spring, as well as in several other cities throughout the year. Our goal was to reimagine OFFF’s visual identity and create a polymorphic logo that adapts to each edition of the festival (Barcelona, Madrid, Bogotá, Shanghai, and potentially others). The project was divided into four parts: research, visual identity creation, trailer production, and app prototyping.

Research

After analysing existing OFFF logos, I concluded that they lacked consistency across the years and from one city to another. They also didn’t reflect the digital aspect of the festival strongly enough, so I decided to make that the core of my concept.

I explored several directions for the logo but ultimately chose one idea to develop for the final project.

Visual identity

To highlight the festival’s digital dimension, I based the identity on two fundamental elements of digital design: binary code and pixels. For each host city, we selected three letters to represent it, converted these letters into binary, and placed the code on a grid. In this system, all 0s become empty squares and all 1s become filled ones, creating a symbol – a logo that is fully adaptable while remaining recognisable across cities.

I chose bright, vibrant colours to evoke the digital world, reminiscent of the tones seen on a broken screen. For the logotype, I selected Lab Grotesk, whose geometric forms echo the pixel-based logo perfectly. For all other text, I used Helvetica to keep the identity clean and avoid oversaturation.

I decided to retain the festival’s existing imagery because its lively, human quality creates a strong contrast with the digital, geometric logo.

The final deliverables included city-specific posters, artist posters, interior hanging banners, staff badges, and a set of social media templates.

Teaser

For my motion design class, I created a teaser for the OFFF festival based on the visual identity I developed. The video presents the essential festival information as well as the key participating artists. I paired the visuals with the instrumental of Charli XCX’s “Von Dutch,” whose digital, audacious sound complements the identity well.

App prototype

As part of my UX course, I prototyped an app that helps users plan their day at the festival, depending on their interests and how they feel that day. The prototype includes a reusable design system fully prepared in Figma.
